Cafe-Restaurant de Plantage

25 January 2023 By Bel

Always a pleasure to visit.

The menu has changed since I was last there, which was sometime before the pandemic.

This new menu is also good. Heavily influenced by North African cuisine. I had the falafel, which was amazing.

The old dessert menu seems to have survived, though. The churros are still there. I would go to this restaurant solely for those churros. Even so, the whole menu is a big hit.

A change of scenery

11 January 2023 By Bel

I spent today working from my new ‘office’.

I’ve signed up for a subscription that entitles me to several days a month working from my choice of beautiful office buildings in Amsterdam.

It’s a nice way to experience different work environments. This is one of the benefits of the hybrid work culture ushered in by the covid pandemic.

Some days I work from home. Other days I go to my company’s offices. And now, I have a third option – I take my pick from any number of well designed, unique, Amsterdam buildings.

Today, I worked in a building on one of Amsterdam’s most beautiful canals. I was shown to a nice, private office where I worked undisturbed for the whole day. The wifi was excellent, and so my video meetings went smoothly. There was a coffee machine close by, also stocked with decaf capsules. (A plus point in my book, as that is the only ‘coffee’ I drink.)

All told, a lovely day at work. Looking forward to many more.

Happy New Year

1 January 2023 By Bel Leave a Comment

And, just like that, 2023 is here.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year, with every blessing for the year ahead.

(An amazing display of fireworks in my neighbourhood. Always good to see.)

I have good plans for the new year, including that I will spend way less time on social media – Twitter, specifically.

One way to ensure success in this is to make sure I have other activities lined up to take Twitter’s place.

And I have a few. I will read more books and play more piano.

A good first step would be to delete the Twitter app from my phone. I will use it only on my iPad or laptop.

It’s not that Twitter is bad, in itself. For me, it just has to be used right. I get a lot of benefit from it – mainly staying up to date with developments in my field of work. However, it is possible to get sucked into all sorts of irrelevant content that ends up wasting one’s time. So my aim is to use Twitter more strategically – to take the good, and sidestep the bad.

It also helps that I have identified what I will do with the time saved. Reading more books and playing more piano will definitely benefit me. I will create some goals around these, so that I can measure (and be encouraged by) my progress in this way.

I’m rooting for myself big time. Looking forward to the challenge, and to the rewards.

Westerpark

16 April 2022 By Bel

The Westerpark is lovely in Springtime.

I spent quite a bit of time there today. It’s good to see that all the leaves are back; winter can be quite unforgiving, stripping everything down to the barest twigs. But the greenery is back, and with it, the feel of being in a park once more. It’s not the same when you come here in the winter.

So I spent a good deal of time there today – sat on benches, walked a fair bit, took some photos, things like that.

I’ve written a few words before about the Westerpark. I’m sure I’ll do so again before too long.
