An intense flavour. Smoky. Puts me in mind (ever so slightly) of the Lagavulin 16.
Not surprising, as the Laphroaig Triple Wood is also an Islay single malt. Its name pays tribute to its having been aged in three different barrels. First up, Bourbon barrels (no wonder it evoked the Balvennie for me), followed by Quarter Casks. The final touch is via Oloroso sherry butts.
An excellent choice. I can see myself returning to this one every now and again.
